Pressure cooker

Introduction:

Pressure cooker has now been a common cookware in each and every household throughout the whole world. This cookware saves cooking time and fuel. A physicist named Denis Papin had invented pressure cooker.

Pressure cooker works as per Gay-Lussac's law of gas. Gay-Lussac's law says that pressure of a gas is directly proportionate to its temperature. It means that if the gas pressure is increased, the gas temperature will be increased. This mechanism is used in a Pressure Cooker that cooks food fast.

As we know the boiling point of water is 100 degree Celsius. But the temperature is raised to about 121 degree Celsius inside a pressure cooker by increasing the vapor pressure inside of it. This increased vapor pressure is controlled to be maintained by its safety valve as the safety valve releases the excessive vapor right after reaching to its trigger pressure.

Benefits of pressure cooker:

1. Pressure cooker saves time:

A pressure cooker can finish cooking within one third of normal cooking time.

2. Presser cooker saves fuel cost:

As the cooking hour of a pressure cooker is one third of the normal time. It saves two third of the total fuel cost too.

Disadvantages of pressure cooker

1. We are to apply the same temperature to all food ingredients.

A food ingredient boiling temperature is different from other one's. But we are to apply the same temperature to all food ingredients. As a result we can not achieve the original dish color, texture and taste.

2. Pressure cooker allows no checking:

Checking food whether cooked well.

we can not check if the dish got seasoned or ready for eating.

3. We need a lot of time to learn well:

As cooking by pressure cooker is a different thing, we need time to learn and get habituated with it.

4. We eat overcooked foods:

As we have not mastered the cooking timing by pressure cooker, we are to eat over-cooked foods very often. We should use pressure cooker recipe book.

Conclusion: Pressure cooker is a time and energy (fuel) saving cookware. We must get the best of it. We must purchase pressure cooker of renowned brand from a trusted show room.
